Munch Musings from E. 53rd Street and Hamm Avenue Joe Flacco Edition

Flacco

JOE FLACCO is back! I actually think this is hilarious for a few reasons and I am a FLACCO FAN but there are some circumstances here that I will get into in a big way. Do I like him as a man? HECK YES. Do I like him as  QB? Let’s say he’s better than anything we put on the field last year.

* This signing is a few weeks late. What was the front office doing? Were they perusing Depodesta’s laptop to see who was available?

* He should have been re-signed for the 2024 season but of course when HC Kevin Stefanski and then OC Ken Dorsey went out to LA under the guise of checking on Deshame’s health they were ordered NOT TO RESIGN JOE. Why? Watson knew as soon as he threw a pick, missed an open man and flat out was awful which has been his MO with the Browns that the masses would call for FLACCO!

* When the Browns ’23 season ended with a beat down by a rookie QB (CJ Stroud) against the “world’s greatest defense” of course Joe was to blame for throwing picks. NO MENTION of him salvaging the season and having to throw the ball more than he should have vs the Texans as the above-mentioned D put the team in a huge hole. Shucks Houston receivers were more wide open than a toll booth on the turnpike which btw are ALWAYS OPEN!

* Joe Flacco is a good signing, one which may even make me watch a little and root for the team against certain foes.

* Last year there was very little mention of DeShame being awful, DTR being not worthy to play for the DC Defenders of the XFL and Winston, after some brief heroics, gift wrapping the pigskin to the opponents. Why? The team could do no wrong.

* Even more laughable are the browns rabble (aka browns cult) who piled on Joe and now are giddy that he has been brought back. Which way is it and again for their sake thank golly Jim Jones was not based in Cleveland, wore browns gear and had brown and orange kool aid.

* Joe’s stats last year with Indy were as follows:

248 attempts, 162 completions, 65.3%, 1,761 yards, .1 average with 12 TD’s and 7 picks.

* I must flash back to 9/18/22, when Joe Flacco led a brilliant comeback against the Browns in Cleveland leading the Jets to a 31-20 victory. Another likeable fellow, Jacoby Brissett, led the Browns that day and had a good day. YUP must have been that World’s Greatest Defense collapsing again! I WAS cheering for Joe and Buckeye Brother Wilson that game.

* What will Joe mean for the team? An improvement to 5-12, 6-11 perhaps unless LT is solidified, the running game is dependable and the WR’s along with TE’s are shored up. On D, you need DB’s in the worst way, especially CB’s and a FS. Lineman and LB’s too if JOK is not able to come back and remember, and this is not good, Denzil is one concussion away from leaving the game.

* Now, we will see if the incompetent front office makes the right moves in the draft. One move…TRAVIS HUNTER.

* BTW where are the repercussions from the big “swing and a miss” according to crooked Jimmy with the Watson trade and signing? The owner sadly cannot be replaced so…??!!

Again, I need to reiterate…my love for the Browns for over SIX DECADES was applauded locally and nationally, by fellow fans and media. Jimmy started on Day 1 tainting that love when he wore Vols orange to his intro presser. We have put up with johnny donkey, texts to the sideline, Hoyer being dissed, Gordon being coddled, being forced fed Callaway, 1-15, 0-16, Baker being set up to fail and the recent QB situation but again, too many say “it’s cool, go Browns.” DANG, WHAT IS WRONG HERE?

Joe is a good man, His best QB days are behind him but right now this is a very good move, one of the few by this team and alas, the fan base will be fractured again, as per so many this is a bad move. I will bring it up again…the trump card, the wild card are the Haslams and as long as they are owners very little will change except perhaps stealing money from the schools and social services to build “plastic land money grab” Haslam grab. It is flat out wrong.
