Munch Musings from E. 53rd Street and Hamm Avenue Guards Edition

Welcome to Monday, a powerful new week! Here’s a little bit of ‘dis and a little bit of ‘dat to start your week!

* No doubt per MLB.com’s Sarah Langs “BASEBALL IS THE BEST” and tonight’s matchup between the Guards and Twins as they start a 4-game series echoes those thoughts especially with tonight’s pitching duel. A gent who truly is the ace of the Guardians staff (after a short time here!) Matthew Boyd tosses against the best Minnesota has in Pablo Lopez. Sheesh…worth the price of admission plus more. The Twins come in at 79-70 while the Guards are 86-84 plus Minnesota is 6.5 off the pace. NOW IS THE TIME FOR CLEVELAND to put them away! Plain and simple. Until Saturday’s game the Guards did not look like the guys who have had a magnificent season. There was a stretch, except for the 3 vs the putrid Southsiders, that the players were looking for the other guys to step up. NAH BROS, this is on each and every one of you. Puck up the torch and let’s go.

Open notes to Stephen Vogt and the Talking Heads sang “This ain’t no party, this ain’t no disco, this ain’t n fooling around”! IT’S THE STRETCH RUN BABY!

* I take a deep breath again (still?) saying this just as I trust him, he’ll blow a grounder I handled in 4th great in Golden Knights Little League at St. Henry on E. 183rd and Harvard…PLAY BRAYAN ROCCHIO every day at SS. No more Schneemann at short. I will say Daniel played a good third base yesterday, but he is a utility guy and that is it.

* Lane Thomas MUST be playing every day in CF. That’s it. Proud of his bounce back as I lost patience with him even though I realize changing teams IS life changing for him and his family. He has proven he IS a pro and need him there every game.

* I still like Big Christmas in RF every day. He gets in a groove with consistency, and it seems that when he sat two games in KC it messed up his mojo.

* Know when a pitcher needs to come out. Simple. He was great yesterday as he pulled Lively after 2 hits. That is the key.

* With the pen your go to guys are Herrin, Smith, Gaddis, and the great Emmanuel. PLEASE no Sandlin unless there is a 4-run lead.

OK Guards… take 3 out of 4 from Rocco’s guys and Guards faithful…there’s not enough “boos” and cries of “cheater” to rain down on Correa…let him have it!

Some things in Cleveland sports bring a smile to my face and make me wide eyed…

– Watching Jose Ramirez run the bases!

– The experience of Emmanuel Clase coming down the bullpen stairs, traversing the diamond then taking to the mound.

– The thrill of Andres Gimenez playing 2nd base. Robbie Alomar was so special but golly Andres is right there.

– A Steven Kwan throw to the plate. Yes, Kwanie is not a big corner outfielder, but he can gun ’em down.

– Not just listening to Tom Hamiton and Jim Rosenhaus but hearing Hammy’s “BALL GAME”!

Hope to see you at the corner of Carnegie and Ontario this week.
