The Cleveland Guardians outlasted the New York Yankees 9-5 in 12 innings, the longest major league game this season!
With the win the Guards are tied for the best record in baseball with the Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers (.584 winning %). The Los Angeles Dodgers are leading MLB with a .591 winning %.
Now check this out! How the heck did the Cleveland Guardians win with the following taking place…
– The team stranded TWENTY runners!
– They went 7 for 24 with runners in scoring position!
– Kwan walked 3 times but was 0-4.
– Jose was 1-6 (RBI single in 12th) and was intentionally passed once.
– Josh was 0-5 with one walk.
– Gimenez was 0-4 however he got 3 free passes.
– The man who ignited the comeback was pinch hitter Lane Thomas who hammered a go-ahead 12th inning leadoff double to the score the backyard whiffle ball rules runner on 2nd Daniel Schneemann. Thomas was a putrid 6 for 53 in 16 games since coming over from the Nats. That’s a .113 BA. The floodgates then opened!
– Thank golly for the 6-run lead as Barlow was Barlow again in the bottom of the 12th walking the first batter he faced, striking out Soto then giving up a double to Judge! I actually shot WKYC Channel 3 – Cleveland’s Nick Camino a note saying “even Barlow cannot blow a 6 run lead!
Even more good, and there was plenty to snatch that victory, was…
– The Guards drew 14 walks. PLEASE stop swinging at ball 4! Last night they did!
– Rocchio had 3 hits but are they worth it? A solo shot and 2 bunt singles. He still is a huge liability in the field as he was lost in space in the 4th as he collared a relay throw and had no clue what to do with it as the prodding Trevino scored for NY. Yup the ol’ give us a run, take one away and again in the 8th he had a throw home that was up the first base line that Bo caught and dove to get Grisham at home!
– Boyd pitched a decent game. 5.1, 4 hits, 3 runs but an inexcusable 4 walks to 2 K’s and 2 HR’s (solo shots in the 1st to Soto and Judge).
– Sandlin edged closer to getting off my DNT (Do Not Trust) list with .2 of an inning. After giving up a single he got an inning ending DP! He was the SANDMAN.
– Gaddis, Smith, Clase (2 IP!) were very good.
I do not have the lineup for tonight and I do know Tito made his own out. I am wondering how much the computer has to do with the Guards line up as NOEL and FRY must be in the lineup daily and PLEASE use Thomas tonight so he may build on last night’s game.
Also Mr. Schneemann (who makes me cringe at SS) made some very nice plays in the OF. PLEASE PENCIL IN THE GUYS WHO ARE HITTING PLUS YOUR STARS. They just start hitting and we know they have the talent to do just that!
