A little bit of ‘dis and a little bit of ‘dat…
I feel we all love the long holiday weekends, even those in the service industry and working stores that are open. Why? You have a job plus I know folks tip just a tad more at restaurants and bars! The biggest reason for me is today is Tuesday, feels like Monday, which means the glorious, almighty weekend is knocking on the door.
Here’s some gumbo with hot sauce for you to warm things up just a bit as we have some cool days and nights, which by the way are PERFECT for me.
Guardians are in KC again tonight 7:40p after taking game 1 of the series 4-2. Sunday’s dub over the Buccos (6-1) was also sweet as Kyle Manzardo had his coming out party and Alex Cobb was brilliant. Whew, thank you “baseball gods” that Cobb survived that comebacker.
By the way Cobb and Boyd have been very good, especially Boyd, but of course the rabble made sure to tell us how bogus these pickups were when they happened.
I looked at Manzardo’s at bats Sunday when he went yard, and I thought about his first time with the Guards before he was sent back to Columbus. If you know the game you saw his doubles hitting the gaps and the ball travelled with a purpose, I noted to you at that time Kyle was on the verge of breaking out. It looks that way.
I for one was tired of seeing Lane Thomas not just swing the bat but play the OF. At times I thought the club was being stubborn trying to validate bringing him as they kept penciling him in the lineup. It appears that his confidence level is on the way up and truly he will help this squad as a real Center Fielder and on the bases.
We know that Mr. Lapara aka Jose Ramirez is lethal with the stick but even more so lately his fielding has been out of this world. Quick to the ball, sharp throws, making tough plays look easy.
So much talk these days about Big Christmas Mr. Noel being the next Sponge Bob. Nope. Truly a legit long ball guy who will settle for singles and the young fella truly takes pride in his fielding.
Some news from the Lakefront. The well-respected Osborn Engineering recently did a study on Cleveland Browns Stadium and quote / unquote “The stadium is in good condition considering the age of the facility.” ‘Nuff said.
Watching a lot of College Football this past weekend some things came to mind:
* Ohio State is very good. Sheesh, chill folks as early on we all heard the banter and saw the social noting “this is the #2 team in the country.” As I have noted many times social media gives so many a voice that should not have one! Yes, I enjoy it for reaching out to friends, but if it went away, I would shed no tears.
* Will Howard did not blow me away. Was he supposed to? Yeah! Was he good” Yeah! I truly wanted to be bedazzled by the Buckeyes new QB and feel he will get even better but he was “just good” vs the Zips.
* Akron was bad especially when the starting QB went down. Yes, Terry Bowden and Tom Arth, former Zips HCs are friends, but no doubt the team is not getting better.
* Gotta shout out Kyle McCord. The new Syracuse QB was brilliant against Ohio Saturday Kyle was 27-39 for 354 yards with 4 TD’s and 1 pick. But it was OHIO UNIVERSITY you say? They are much better than Akron and McCord has less help these days. I wish him the best.
* Talking QB’s, I am blown away how average (and that is being kind) recently transferred DJ Uiagalelei has been for the Seminoles.
* Do you enjoy rooting against LSU’s Brian Kelly? I do.
