A few things on my sports gourd as the Cleveland Guardians get ready for their afternoon game against the cheatin’ Houston Astros. AVOID THE SWEEP…have some pride after getting a NO NO tossed against you last night.
I have been fairly quiet about the GUARDS trade after they sent “Whipping Boy #1′ to the Dodgers! Here we go…
* Civale was dealing since his latest return from the IL. He was the best pitcher in the bigs in July. Aaron started 5 games in July and the only loss was to the Pirates. That was another bullpen implosion. I was shocked by the trade to the Rays. I know he is hurt or injured A LOT! 5 times on the IL in 2 1/2 years and I now he is not a fave of the top men in the dugout but my gosh, teams in the hunt with thin rotations have been ADDING pitching not subtracting and I just do not get this one, especially if he would have been around or another 2+ years. Bottom line on this one is he was not liked (although I liked the way he pitched in July), and he was on the shelf quite a bit BUT don’t teams always keep good pitching? Lately he was “Bobblehead Worthy.”
* YES, I clamored for the team to get Josh Bell for a few years now. Cut and dry he was a major disappointment with the bat and in the field. I know he was added for the stick and not glove but he was not up to par with either. Here’s what I find amusing…so many, in fact I’ll say the majority of fans said “Get rid of the bum. Well, the team ships him off for another middle infielder and so many fans are going nuts. Help me please!
* Did you see that Rangers All Star catcher Jonah Heim has a horrific wrist injury? He may miss the rest of the season as Texas not only tries to win the AL West but in turn go to the post season. Who did the Rangers get to replace him? AUSTIN HEDGES! Hedge Hog will not hit his weight but will throw out base stealers, stop wild pitches and call a great game. As NEO Sports Insiders Natalie Marie said when the team shipped Hedges out “be careful what you wish for.”
* ALL RIGHT!! Your new whipping boy is Myles Straw. You gotta have one so there you go! Remember his average is higher than Gimenez’s average and for all asking why he was not pinch hit for last night in the 9th during the no hitter remember his numbers vs lefties are much higher than the numbers Gabe Arias posts so…shouldn’t the question be “why did they let Arias bat”?
* BTW I am hoping Gabe proves me wrong in the field, running the bases and at the plate. So far, he has not.
As always enjoy every sandwich, take care of each other and now more than ever…it’s your world, pay attention. For now, ADIOS AMIGO long may you run. Truly wanna see you, meet you soon!
