Munch Musings from E. 53rd and Hamm Avenue

A little bit of ‘dis and a little bit of ‘dat…

I truly have been remiss in not reaching out sooner on quite a few “going ons” in the world of sports. Beggin’ your pardon. Where do I start?

Looking back, it was a darn perfect weekend a few days removed after the Ohio State Buckeyes knocked off Penn State 20-13 and homey Drew Allar (yes, his roots are in NE Ohio). Watching every second of this game made me ponder a few issues for the 7-1 and #2 Buckeyes:

– Folks always need to ask, “was this win deserved, were they the better team.” The answer is a resounding YES on all accounts. My gosh this was a 27-6 game and the main point that needs to be brought out is QB Will Howard MUST be better. A pick 6 then fumbling as he got near the end zone is unacceptable for the QB of a team with “national championship or bust” as the end result.

– In the pregame video was shown about how opposing QB’s (Gabriel, Raoila) torched OSU dropping back then running between the tackles for huge gains. If that was the case this sure was not fixed early in the game. I understand that the Penn State offense only put up 6 points and their QB Allar is clearly not ready for prime time, but Knowles D still has me on edge. YES, they get better in the red zone but how about not allowing that, getting 3 and outs and putting the offense back on the field?

– The offensive line did a very good job vs the Lions with Jackson kicking out to LT and Hinzman in at LG. BTW ‘bama’s loss of C Seth McLaughlin is OSU’s gain. This young man has been a leader and a beast anchoring the O Line!

– One other note is with Chip Kelly calling the plays. For the most part he has been good, not great, and PLEASE get rid of the “Flash Screen” where a wide out simply turns to receive a pass (a long handoff) and in the Bucks case usually is tackled without a gain!

My weekend was also perfect as we were with scores of family members in Savannah for a nephew’s wedding and YES nothing beats a live funk band for a party. In spite of all the joy I reveled in the misery heaped upon tttun in front of over 100,000 (for the most part maize and blue cretins) in the outhouse in Ann Arbor by Oregon 38-17. Two things stand out: the defending “national champs” do not have a QB and it’s not so easy for them to win when they are not cheating.

Also, over the weekend the Cavaliers won Friday easily over the Magic at home then travelled to Suds City and beat the Bucks 114-113 on a Spida Mitchell 19’ J with less than a second to play. To go to 8-0 the Cavs then beat the Bucks Monday 116-114.

Why the success? New Coach Kenny Atkinson is pulling all the right strings, using depth plus there is a new star every night to go along with Donovan Mitchell and now a red-hot Darius Garland. The bigs Allen and Mobley, are also a nightmare to defend and their D has been stupendous.

Gonna break away now and be back with a Munch Musings on more nonsense, it never stops with this ownership, on a daily and game to game basis with the pro football team in Cleveland. I will leave you with this…constantly grabbing one’s ankles is not a lot of fun, so why do supporters of this self-imposed  carnage enjoy it so much?
