It’s time for some MUNCH MUSINGS from E. 53rd Street and Hamm Avenue!
Gotta get something out of the way concerning the MLB All Star Game last week. If you are a Cleveland Baseball fan or even a baseball fan in general the big story should have been the Cleveland Guardians having FIVE players reppin’ the team and #TheLAND plus all the Guards talk all game from the announcers but sadly for so many it was more about the uniforms than our Guardians or baseball!
Sheesh, the game should even take precedence over the mindless banter that we read and heard about how the players were dressed. From some of you it was simply an opinion, “I do not like the uniforms” now let’s play ball but for so many it was a pathetic obsession and if that was the case why didn’t those going crazy about the unis simply turn the game off? Some did and for you I can get you help. Perhaps it is the old “I need something to complain about and ruin another evening since I did not chase any kids off my lawn today!” Me? The uniforms did not bother me in any way, shape or form.
The game and the five Cleveland Guardians players were way more important to me. Funny that I was even called “WOKE” for saying the unis did not phase me. Hmm, that “crutch” word is used in so many ways and as I like to note being “WOKE” has nothing to do with most things. If something is right or wrong THAT should be the deciding factor on an issue. Whew, I needed to get that out.
Guardian Musings…
Let’s talk Cleveland Guardians and right now the team is 20 games over .500 and here are some things that will keep them from growing that number:
* Middle infielders CANNOT throw the ball to 1st or catch and field the ball as a Major Leaguer needs to throw, catch and field. I always laugh when someone is “run out of town” for some bizarre reason. Yes, the team makes the final call but the rabble can male difficult for a player in various sports. For an organization “rich” in middle infielders I am seeing the fruit off the vine! Aris, Rocchio and now Schneemann are not acceptable short stops. Tena is in CBus but he apparently he cannot make the cut! The writing is on the wall…#1 draft choice Travis Bazzana will be the 2B with Andres Giminez moving to SS! It is laughable that Amed Rosario was on the “get him out of here for Arias” train when he is playing a good 2B and RF for the Rays and oh yeah, hitting over .300. Andres was cemented at 2B due to all this depth at SS. Well the depth truly is a wading pool!
* No doubt Angel Martinez is the team’s CF. In Spring training he was moved from SS to CF and got the lion’s share of the work at that spot. Since Tyler Freeman was an infielder to start his career make him the utility player, although he has not been ale to hit the ball this year but his track record is he has always hit.
ARGH! Hit the damn ball!
* Speaking of hitting this teams needs a stern scolding, especially batters 1-6. To manage 3 hits and 1 run in 2 games simply is not acceptable! HIT THE FREAKING BALL. MY gosh, when the Guards get on base they disrupt. Let’s go fellas.
* Baserunning can be great at times, aka GUARDIANS BASEBALL AT ITS FINEST, but the runners going home from 3d with the infield drawn it is bad, real bad. I know it is a contact thing but my gosh, you would think every runner feels they are Ricky Henderson who BTW would NOT go home in most situations. I have seen runners try to go from 2nd to 3rd with a ball hit to the SS! SAY WHAT? Cut this out NOW. The hallmark of this squad is running the bases so do it the right way!
ARGH! Throw the damn ball!
* My only note right now with the Guards pitching is GET ANOTHER STARTER! 3 of the top 5 are not with the club and Williams will take some time being Gavin Williams. I also must ask what the heck is going on with all the walks? Yes it puts opponents on base and also drives up the pitch count. Sheesh Carl Willis, talk to these guys and fix this!
The Motor City Kitties are in for 4 game and yes before the break they took 3 of 4 from the Good Guys in their ballpark. The Guardians have worked over the Royals top 2 pitchers in a series here awhile back so jump on Tarik Skubal (10-3, 2.41 ERA and only averages a walk every 6 innings plus strikes out more than 1 an inning!) tonight and set the tone for the series.
Gotta shout out the GUARDS fans too for showing up in big numbers this year especially this past weekend. Record crowd Friday then Saturday’s crowd beat Friday. A real nice showing Sunday. Yes it’s better rooting for a winning team but also a team that does not tell us how great they are and a team of players a fan can actually cheer for with a clear conscience! THANKS GUARDS!
