The Cleveland Guardians are on my “sports gourd” quite a bit these days as I truly am enamored with the young starting pitchers and I saw the Aaron Civale trade coming. I should have shared this with you but a few weeks ago I mentioned to someone with the team how cool it was that a young fellow, Tanner Bibee was the ace of the staff, the NUMERO UNO to go with #2 Civale. Their response was simply ” Gavin Williams is #2″ and the convo ended. I knew right then and there that Aaron would be gone.
Now look at the ACE of the GUARDIANS! What does a #1 do? Wins games, wins big games, saves the pen, and stops losing streaks. That is exactly what Tanner is doing. Take a look at his last two starts:
* Tuesday 8/8 – Tanner pitched the team to a 1-0 win over the vaunted Jays after his team had lost 3 in a row. Reminder the Jays were 13 over .50o at that time. He pitched 7 strong innings giving up 6 hits, striking out 6 and walking NONE!!! BOOM!
* Sunday 8/13 – Bibee wins his 7th consecutive decision after the Guards pen BLEW the previous two games. This Rays team did not impress me even though they are 22 games over .500 but the record is what it is Yes, this W was a necessity and the youngster responded again with 7 strong innings giving up 7 hits, 2 runs striking out 5 and walking NONE!!! BOOM again!
Tanner is slated to pitch Friday at home vs the Motor City Kitties 7:10p first pitch and we know how much fun Fridays are at the corner of Carnegie and Ontario plus this youngster is worth the price of admission. See you at the yard!
