The return of B.J. Penn is tonight in Phoenix, as he faces a top prospect in Yair Rodriguez. It’s a tough task for Penn to come back and defeat the youngster, as Rodriguez is dangerous on his feet and can knock anyone out with his incredible kicks. Penn is no stranger to high-stake situations, as he has been the Lightweight and Welterweight Champion in his UFC career.
There are a few more exciting fights on this card, so here are my picks for this fight card.
John Moraga vs. Sergio Pettis– A battle between two scrappy flyweights, this will be a big test for Pettis. He can really improve his stock with a win over Moraga. I think he does and wins impressively over Moraga.
Winner: Sergio Pettis via Unanimous Decision
Court McGee vs. Ben Saunders– Both guys are coming off impressive showings. McGee has never been submitted, but I think that changes here.
Winner: Ben Saunders via Second-Round Submission
Joe Lauzon vs. Marcin Held– Held had a disappointing last outing against a re-surging Diego Sanchez, but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s a dangerous submission specialist. Lauzon is a warrior and his wars with Jim Miller will always be remembered. Held could be in trouble after this fight, as I think Lauzon puts him out early.
Winner: Joe Lauzon via first-round knockout
Yair Rodriguez vs. B.J. Penn– This is a big fight for both fighters. Rodriguez can propel his career in a featherweight division that is currently in limbo. Penn can make a statement to prove he’s back for a run in the division, if he is looking for an extended stay. But that’s the question: What is Penn’s plans after this fight if he wins? I guess we will find out, as he wears out Rodriguez and finishes him off late.
Winner: B.J. Penn via fourth-round submission
