Tonight in Halifax, Canada, Derrick Lewis attempts to put the whole heavyweight division on notice. Don’t let his decent performance against Shamil Abdurakhimov confuse you, Lewis is on another level right now. He attempts to take out top-ten Heavyweight Travis Browne tonight, though it won’t be easy. Browne has hit a rough patch as of late and has truly never been the same since Fabricio Werdum defeated him the first time they met. With his last two fights being true disappointments against Velasquez and Werdum, Browne will try to remind the UFC fans around the world how dangerous he is when he’s on his game.
There are a bunch of fights on this card that catch the eye right away, so let’s get to my picks for UFC Fight Night: Halifax:
Paul Felder vs. Alessandro Ricci- I see this one going to Ricci, who will get the hometown crowd fired up early with an early knockout.
Winner: Ricci via First-Round Knockout
Sara McMann vs. Gina Mazany- McMann is on the path to a Bantamweight title shot and this will be another chance to showcase her abilities. Look for a submission late in this one.
Winner: Sara McMann via Third-Round Submission
Elias Theodorou vs. Cezar Ferreira- One of the lesser known fights on this card, this will be a fight that will come down to who controls the pace more.
Winner: Theodorou via Split Decision
Sam Sicilia vs. Gavin Tucker- I have a feeling that Tucker is going to show out in this fight. Sicilia is tough, but I think Tucker can become a strong prospect in the Featherweight division. It all starts here.
Winner: Tucker via Unanimous Decision
Johny Hendricks vs. Hector Lombard- Hendricks is coming off of a tough loss to Neil Magny, a loss many saw as debatable. Now he moves up to Middleweight and the guy greeting him is an opponent nobody would want as his welcome to the 185-pound weight class. That would be hard-hitting Hector Lombard. Hendricks is going to have to use his wrestling a lot this fight because standing with Lombard is not recommended. Honestly, I think Hendricks might have one foot out the door, signaling a bad outcome for him tonight.
Winner: Lombard via Second-Round TKO
Derrick Lewis vs. Travis Browne- Lewis can make a huge statement to the rest of the Heavyweights with this fight. Browne needs this win to not only get back in the win column, but to also defend his name that has been getting looked over as of late. If you’re a Lewis fan, tonight should be an enjoyable night for you.
Winner: Lewis via First-Round Knockout
