UFC Women’s Strawweight Championship: Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Rose Namajunas- The biggest story of the night could be in this title fight, as Joanna Champion is fighting for history. With a win tonight, Jedrzejczyk would tie Ronda Rousey’s record for consecutive title defenses with her sixth defense. Ever the promoter, Joanna has acknowledged this opportunity and has been enjoying the bright lights of New York City for the second time in as many years. She’s been here before. She’s had tough opponents. Just not an opponent like “Thug Rose”.
Rose Namajunas is a talented fighter and has been stone-faced this entire week leading up to the biggest fight of her career. She isn’t worried about the bright lights or sounding the toughest. She’d rather be holding the gold at the end of the night, which ultimately does the most talking. Namajunas is 4-1 in her last five fights, including victories over Angela Hill and Michelle Waterson. Out of those four wins, three of them have been by submission victory for Rose. She will definitely have the advantage on the ground. The question will be can she get Joanna to the ground and stabilize her?
Joanna has faced submission specialists in the past with Claudia Gadelha and Jessica Andrade. This will be nothing new to her, as she will look to turn up the heat as the championship rounds progress.
Winner: Joanna Jedrzejczyk via Unanimous Decision
