Monsters Fall At Home To Grand Rapids 6-1, Game 6 Monday In Grand Rapids

The Monsters had a chance on Saturday night to take the series win over the Grand Rapids Griffins on their home ice. The Q was rocking early, but it would not stay that way.

The energy was electric throughout the First Period and hit its peak late in the First Period. After taking a 1-0 lead off of a Kerby Rychel goal at the 16:42 mark of the 1st Period, the Q erupted. That goal was the only one the Monsters could get on the Griffins Goalie Jared Coreau. The momentum was lost, as the Griffins took over.

The Second Period was a barrage of scoring from the Griffins, as Andy Miele, Tyler Bertuzzi and Andreas Athanasiou. The Griffins were energized after the three goals in the Second Period, as they started to feel life in the series. The frustration was building from the players and fans in attendance.

The scoring didn’t stop in the Third Period for Grand Rapids, as Bertuzzi scored again. Following the Bertuzzi goal was a Nathan Paetsch goal that ended up being the end of Joonas Korpisalo’s night. Tyler Bertuzzi scored for a third time, this time on Anton Forsberg. As many disappointed Monsters’ fans left the arena, the horn sounded on the game.

The Monsters never found a groove tonight and will look to capture the series victory on Monday, May 16 in Grand Rapids.
