Monsters Earn 2-1 Shootout Victory Over Texas

The Cleveland Monsters and Texas Stars squared off against each other again on Saturday. Cleveland redeemed their loss yesterday, as they defeated Texas in a shootout by a score of 2-1.

The first period was highlighted by a Caleb Herbert goal at the 3:47 mark to put Texas in front 1-0. Texas would lead the shots on goal statistic sixteen to nine in what was a very scrappy first period. There were seven penalties in the twenty-minute frame, four of those on Cleveland.

Cleveland bounced back in the second frame, as Nick Moutrey tied the game at the 8:47 mark of the period off of a Dean Kukan pass.

Sonny Milano had one of the better chances to take the lead for Cleveland in the third period, as he lined up for a penalty shot at the 11:39 mark. Unfortunately, Milano missed the shot. The third period ended up scoreless and the game would head to overtime.

Overtime couldn’t solve the tie either, so a shootout was necessary.

Both teams were unable to find the back of the net in the first two rounds of the shootout. In the third round, Jordan Maletta and Caleb Herbert scored. After Alex Broadhurst’s goal in the fourth round, Anton Forsberg would close the game out for the Monsters by shutting down Travis Morin’s shot.

Cleveland is now 17-13-1-2 and sits in fourth place in the Central Division.
