BRUNSWICK, OHIO – Friday night the Mentor Cardinals rolled past the Brunswick Blue Devils by a final score of 35-0. Brunswick with the loss falls to 0-5 on the season, while Mentor improves to 5-0.
Not only will the Cardinals keep their perfect season hopes alive, but will also maintain being the number one team in the division I Ohio High School Football.
Recap:
First quarter: Mentor would get two scores in the first quarter, a 20-yard touchdown run from Brian Trobel and a four-yard touchdown caught by Justin Lake. The Cards would get an interception from Dylan Wolf and a fumble recovery from Noah Potter. Potter is a four-star recruit for Ohio State.
Second quarter: Mentor would score three times and extend their lead to 35-0 at the half. A four-yard QB keeper from Ian Kipp, and an eight-yard run from Brian Trobel. Lastly Mentor got a 47-yard touchdown throw to Luke Foriea. James Pedley also recovered a fumble for the Cardinals early in the second quarter.
Third and fourth quarter: The second half saw virtually no action. A running clock was on-going for the whole half. Mentor did recover from a fumble in fourth quarter thanks to Nate Frimel.
Brunswick struggled to sustain a drive all night long. Early in the second quarter, they were driving the ball to Mentor’s 40-yard line and ended up fumbling the ball.
Mentor’s defense was dominant and story of the night. For Brunswick, the quarterback rotation continues to be in full swing. Head Coach Mark Pinzone mentioned that Josh Stocko and Jacob Scherette are recovering from injuries.
He said Scherette could be available for Solon next week. If you are an Ohio State fan, try to check out Mentor’s Noah Potter. He is dominant, speed, and good size for defensive end.
Player of the game: Mentor’s defense. usually it would be offensive player. Tonight, Mentor’s defense stood out. Forcing four turnovers and keep Brunswick offense from getting in any sort of rhythm.
