Mentor 21 21 11 18 = 71
Brunswick 10 12 19 13 = 54
When you have a full lineup of hot shooters and play lockdown defense, it’s a good recipe for success. And that’s exactly what occurred in Brunswick Friday night as Mentor drilled the Blue Devils 71 – 54.
The first half was all Cardinals: 52% shooting (including a scorching 10 for 16 in 3-point shots) and a 19 – 11 rebounding edge. Brunswick was held to just 39% accuracy before the intermission.
The Blue Devils cut into the Mentor lead with some timely shooting in the third quarter, but the Cardinals withstood the Brunswick run and cruised to victory.
All five Mentor starters finished in double figures, led by Ian Ioppolo with 16 points. Brunswick sharpshooter Brayden Hamilton let the Blue Devils’ attack with 13, but Ioppolo kept him in check most of the evening, limiting Hamilton to 4 baskets in 13 attempts.
