Newbury Township – The Mayfield boys golf team traveled to Geauga County on Monday to take on Kenston in a late Monday afternoon match.
Mayfield took on Kenston at Kenston’s home course, Punderson State Park Golf Course in Newbury Township.
The Punderson State Park Golf course is a tough long course with the final two holes requiring precise approach shots over water.
For the match, both teams played very well in this early season matchup shooting identical 178s for their top four golfers.
Mayfield was led by Mario Daher who carded a 40.
Tied for second for Mayfield were Charlie Grimm and Josh Kutsikovich who both shot 45.
Finishing in third for Mayfield boys golf was Matt Morelli who recorded a 48 for the round.
The Mayfield boys golf won the match as their fifth golfer scored three shots lower than Kenston’s fifth golfer.
“I think our team is heading in the right direction,” said sophomore golfer Charlie Grimm. “I have really high hopes for the season.”
Mayfield Boys Golf has now won their first three matches of the season.
Mayfield began the season by defeating Eastlake North, 169-203.
In the opener Mayfield was led by Grimm and Daher who both carded 40s.
In their second golf match of the season, Mayfield again defeated Eastlake North, 179-193.
Mayfield returns to their home course on Wednesday as they will take on Kenston at Manakiki Golf Course.
