Mat Insiders: WWE Releases Six Superstars

Usually post WrestleMania includes a couple (usually 5-6) WWE wrestlers getting their walking papers. 2016 is no exception to the rule, as today the company parted ways with a number of name competitors on their roster.

Gone via official announcements from the company are the following:

Hornswoggle
Alex Riley
Zeb Colter
El Torito
Cameron
Santino Marella

While all of these ‘superstars’ have had roles on TV in the past, none of them have done much in recent memory.

Colter was re-packaged with Alberto Del Rio late last year when he came back to the WWE, but that storyline failed badly. Torito had been off WWE TV since Los Matadores were taken off to be re-packaged as The Colons, and hasn’t been heard from since.

Cameron was dumped after she went on Twitter yesterday and slammed WWE (not a good move by the way) for cyber-bullying. She’s been working WWE NXT and at the Performance Center since being taken off TV in 2015.

Santino turned into a comedy act in recent years, but hasn’t been a regular WWE performer since suffering a neck injury a few years back.

Riley has been working WWE NXT for the past year, but after a push after his breakup post WrestleMania XXVII with The Miz, he slowly became an afterthought in the company.

As for Hornswoggle, he was off TV after he was suspended for a WWE Wellness violation last year.

UPDATE 2:07 – Two more WWE superstars are gone, with Wade Barrett announcing via Twitter that he’s come to a deal with the company for his release.

Also gone is Damien Sandow, who has been one of the more underused stars in the company the last few years. It appeared he was on the verge of stardom after he was one of the last two in the ‘Andre the Giant’ Battle Royal two years ago, but the company never got him on track after that.
