The season may be over for the Cleveland Monsters, but the madness may just be starting.
With the Expansion Draft coming up, a lot of teams will be losing players that will need to be replaced. On top of that, Las Vegas still needs to fill assistant coaching roles as well as the rest of the roster.
That brings this Tweet from John Buccigross into play today regarding the University of Michigan’s head coaching opening.
Multiple #cawlidgehawkey sources say: Established coaches interested. NHL guys, too. Bet on Mel Pearson with John Madden as an assistant. https://t.co/CL8tVb1ran

For those who didn’t know, Madden played his collegiate hockey at the University of Michigan while Pearson was an assistant coach for the Wolverines, so it isn’t that far of a stretch. Madden was brought in by the Monsters to coach this past season after former Head Coach Jared Bednar departed for the Colorado Avalanche’s head coaching gig. Cleveland missed the playoffs last season in Madden’s first year as coach, finishing in fifth place with a record of 39-29-4-4 for 86 points. Though Cleveland would finish with the same amount of points as the fourth-place Charlotte Checkers, Charlotte would get in due to the tiebreakers.
If the rumors become true, the Monsters would be on the hunt for a third head coach in as many years. Then again, they are just rumors right now.
