The Lutheran West Lady Longhorns kept the tradition of State qualifiers alive and well this week at the Austintown-Fitch Division 2 Regional. With five qualifying athletes representing 5 events, the team scored 23 points for 10th place and all five athletes are heading to Columbus for the State Meet.
Senior Sarah Ragland started it all off by qualifying in the Shot Put with her 4th place finish and personal best throw of 38′ 10.5″. She also was 5th in the Discus.
Next, senior MaQuila Norman made herself a 4-time State Meet qualifier in the 400m finishing in third place with a time of 56.60 breaking her own school record. Finally, the 4x400m relay team of Raiyah Johnson, Kristin Groppe, Paris Mather and MaQuila Norman finished 2nd in a new school record time of 4:00.47. Raiyah Johnson also competed in the 100m prelim finishing 11th overall.
“This group of ladies is very special,” Lutheran West coach Keith Whitman said.
“They come from a varied background with the common goal of gutting out success. Not only are we proud of their performances, we are even more proud of the good character they showed while succeeding. The trip to Columbus definitely is one that was earned in every way imaginable.”
Best of luck to the Longhorns in Columbus and congratulations on achieving this amazing feat.
