ROCKY RIVER, OH –
On Friday night, Lutheran West welcomed CVC opponent Independence to Alumni Field. Lutheran West held their Senior Night with multiple key players being announced. Offensive lineman Richard Luecke and LB Eli Burns headlined the seniors for Lutheran West. These seniors and the other captains were looking to lead their team to a victory. The Longhorns just came off a hard-fought win against Cuyahoga Heights to win the CVC Metro Division.
Lutheran West Defense
Throughout the whole game, it was tough for Independence to get any offensive rhythm. In the second quarter, cornerback DQ Bradley forced the first Independence turnover of the night with an interception. The next drive, Senior DT Richard Luecke recovered an Independence fumble. With time winding down in the half, sophomore DL Di’Marrion Gill had a strip sack of the quarterback. He then recovered the fumble and returned it for a touchdown. Lutheran West would have another interception and fumble recovery in the second half. Senior LB Eli Burns picked up the interception, and Junior DL Sa’vvyon Jones recovered the fumble.
Lutheran West Offense
It took the Longhorns a few drives to be consistent on the offensive end. Their first drive ended in a turnover on downs deep in Independence territory. Two possessions later, Lutheran West fumbled on a botched pitch play turning it back to the Blue Devils. Despite being up just 7-0 after the 1st quarter, Lutheran West kicked into gear in the 2nd. Jayden Theodore caught a pair of touchdowns in the quarter. One from Senior QB Clay Noble, and the other from his brother Jalany Theodore. Going into the half, Lutheran West held a commanding 42-0 lead. In the 4th quarter, J’Leon Isom capped off the scoring for the Longhorns with a 9-yard touchdown run.
Next Week
The Lutheran West Longhorns (8-1) cap off the regular season next week as they travel to Harvey Painesville (5-4). The Longhorns look to tie the school record for most wins in a season with 9. The last time this took place was in 2002. Independence (3-6) travels to Brooklyn (3-6) and looks to end their rough season on a high note.
