1. Transition and points in the paint
The Cavaliers gave up way too many points in both avenues on Tuesday night. To put it simply, the Pistons essentially ran the Cavs off the court.
Detroit had 27 fast break points compared to just six for Cleveland. As Stan Van Gundy pointed out on Sunday, the NBA’s definition of fast break points doesn’t even encompass all transition baskets. That means Detroit’s points in transition were likely even higher.
The Cavs continue to miss one-on-one assignments and rotations all throughout their transition defense, which leads to easy shots.
They also struggled to defend in the paint losing the interior battle by a whopping 30 points, 68-38.
A majority of the breakdowns that are happening in transition and in the paint are effort-based. In recent years, the Cavs have struggled against depleted teams. The Pistons traded away Avery Bradley and Tobias Harris last night while opting to sit newcomer Blake Griffin.
Tomorrow the Cavs will need to be much better when it comes to basic effort, as they have the second leg of their back-to-back against the Miami Heat.

Head scratching rotation KLove PF does down and JGreen only gets 11 mins. A teams coming in without major pieces available meaning they will be playing very young and the players who Lue didnt even dress are the young players Cedi and Zizic. Surprise surprise the Cavs got run off the court.
