LORAIN– A battle for Lorain County bragging rights is taking place on Thursday night.
The Lorain Titans (1-1) will host the Elyria Pioneers (0-2) at 7:00 p.m. Thursday night at George Daniel Field in Lorain.
The Titans are coming off of a 54-0 victory against Cleveland JFK last week. In Week 1, the Titans lost in a rubber match to Midview, 37-34. The Titans lost after The Middies rallied in the fourth quarter to overcome a three-touchdown deficit.
Titans quarterback Justin Sturgill has thrown for 470 yards this season, and has completed 24-of-39 passes for 62 percent completion. Daylin Dower is leading the way with 222 rushing yards and three touchdowns, as well as 122 receiving yards and one receiving touch down. Tyshawn Lighty is Lorain’s top receiver, however, with 141 receiving yards and two touchdowns so far this year.
Elyria will be looking to get their first win of the 2017 season, as they fell in a close game with Avon Lake in Week 1, 21-20, and then again last week to Bedford, 34-18.
In the loss, Deviian Williams had an impressive 115 receiving yards, while quarterback Tristan Arno completed 18-0f-37 passes for 234 yards.
Elyria vs. Lorain is always a great rivalry, so much so that when these two schools met in the boys’ basketball district finals during the 2016-17 season, there were scalpers selling tickets.
Thursday night is sure to present another great installment.
