LeBron James can relate to what the Cleveland Indians are feeling after losing Game 7 of the World Series.
James reflected on his personal experience of losing in the NBA Finals during Thursday’s shootaround.
“You never get past the pain,” said James.
“I still think about and dream about or have nightmares about losing in The Finals.
“I’ve lost many times in The Finals. I’ve won a few as well, but you never get past the pain. As a competitor, you’re like, ‘What could I have done better? Could I have done this, could I have dove for that loose ball, could I have taken that charge, could I have called out a coverage defensively that could have helped us win a ballgame?’ You never really get past it.”
LeBron was in attendance for the extra-inning thriller and believes it was one of the all-time classics.
“It was an unbelievable game,” said James.
“It’s probably one of the best Game 7s in sports that we’ve seen in a long time. Both teams will try to get better and be better for next season. I think the Indians did a helluva job of doing that this year. I know they’ll probably come back much better next year as well.”
There were quite a few similarities between the Cavs in 2015 and the Indians in 2016, most noticable was the injury-plagued roster.
Perhaps the Tribe can follow it up in a fashion similar to what the Cavs did with a healthy roster one year later.
