LeBron James has been enjoying some well-deserved time off after an amazing championship run, but perhaps watching the Rio Olympics has fueled the superstar’s desire to represent his country again.
James recently indicated that he “did not retire” from Team USA, but expanded on that statement in an article with Sam Amick of USA Today.
“It would be pretty amazing to be able to actually play for the greatest NBA coach of all time,” LeBron told Amick.
“First of all, Coach K and Gregg Popovich are two my favorites of all time,” James said. “To be able to play for Coach K in the Olympics and world championships and to be able to go against Coach Pop in the NBA, it would be a treat.”
Team USA takes on Serbia in the gold medal game on Sunday and LeBron will be glued to his TV just like us, rooting for his country.
It might be the only time King James gets to be a “regular fan” for a while, as it certainly sounds like he has intentions of playing in Tokyo.
Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Durant recently passed LeBron for first and second place on the all-time U.S. Olympic scoring-list. Anthony announced 2016 would be his final Olympic appearance after winning his third gold medal, but perhaps there will be some friendly competition between Durant and LeBron in 2020, should the two decide to play.
He’ll be 35 years old in the summer of 2020.
