LeBron James has pledged to donate $2.5 mil. to the Muhammad Ali exhibit at the National Museum of African American History and Culture at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C.
LeBron often credits Ali for being a leader in the arena and more importantly in the community and is following in his footsteps with the work he does away from basketball.
“Muhammad Ali is such a cornerstone of me as an athlete because of what he represented not only in the ring as a champion but more outside the ring — what he stood for, what he spoke for, his demeanor,” James told USA Today Sports on Thursday.
“(LeBron’s) support will help us to continue the story of Muhammad Ali and will encourage athletes to realize how important athletics is in terms of social justice,” museum founding director Lonnie Bunch said, according to USA Today.
LeBron is on his way to being considered the greatest of an era at the very least and the connection to “the greatest,” along with Jim Brown is part of his love for the history of sports and also playing an active role to leave a lasting legacy.
