LeBron James becomes youngest player in NBA history with 30,000 points

SAN ANTONIO– LeBron James joined the 30,000 point club during the Cavaliers’ game against San Antonio on Tuesday night.

James needed seven points coming into the contest, and the go-ahead basket came on a 20-foot jumper inside of the left wing with 1.1 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

It goes without saying that he joins an elite club in the accomplishment. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387 points); Karl Malone (36,928); Kobe Bryant (33,643); Michael Jordan (32,292); Wilt Chamberlain (31,419); and Dirk Nowitzki, (30,837 and counting) have all paved the way before him.

James’ special distinction is the fact that he is the youngest player to ever accomplish the feat at 33-years, 24-days old. Bryant previously held the record at  34-years, 104-days old.

Coming into Saturday’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, James needed just 25 points. When asked if he was disappointed that the chase for 30,000 would continue on the road, he said no.

“It’s never a chase, it’s never been a chase,” James said following the game on Saturday. “I don’t chase points, you guys know me by now. I don’t chase anything when it comes to scoring. When I get it, I get it, that’s not how I got to this point in my career.”
