GATES MILLS, Ohio- In the first of two games at the Lancers Ice Arena, the Gilmour Varsity team took the ice to face the North Allegheny Tigers.
The game was clean for most of the first period, as both teams were focused on looking for good shot opportunities. That paid off for Gilmour early on with a goal at the 4:22 mark of the period. John Treppo was the man behind the stick that led to the goal. It was one of the only shot attempts at the NA goal, as NA had outshot them 15-3.
In the second period, NA seemed to be getting better shots on goal. One of the factors that can be attributed to that is the hard-hitting mentality the Tigers established. In an interesting move by Head Coach John Malloy, goaltender Payton Wetzel was pulled from between the pipes and replaced by Eric Ulchaker midway through the period. The Tigers took advantage and evened things up at one. Going into the third period, the momentum was completely with North Allegheny.
In the third period, the Tigers were able to get a goal from Justin Kidd, as the Lancers looked to be in trouble. After a hard hit that resulted in a check from behind on Dawson Richard, the Lancers had a five minute opportunity to score on the power play. They were unsuccessful on the attempt, as they were unable to move the puck into the Tigers’ defensive zone. After attempting to score with the extra attacker led to a Tigers goal, Gilmour would fall to a final score of 3-1.
