For the second straight season, the Demons fell to the Lakers in a disappointing loss Friday night at First Federal Lakewood Stadium.
The Demons jumped on the board first with a 26 yard scoring strike from Jacob May to Kevin Walls and with Logan Rummel’s kick it was 7-0 just three and half minutes into the game. The Ranges answered back with two TD’s and the quarter ended with Lakewood leading 14-7.
JJ Coleman got the Demons going in the second with a 5 yard scamper and Rummel again was perfect and it was 14-14 with 3:13 left in the half. The Demon defense stopped Lakewood and forced a punt that the Rangers downed on the Westlake 1 yard line but a fumble on the QB sneak with :20 left to go in the half gave the Rangers a 21-14 halftime lead.
As the weather got worse, the Rangers scored with 3:55 left in the third on a 35 yard TD pass and took a 28-14 lead. Jacob May’s 5 yard run closed the gap for the Demons but Rummels kick was no good and it was 28-20 at the end of three.
The Rangers again extended the lead to 35-20 with an 8 yard run with 10:27 left in the 4th. Westlake got the final score of the game on a 6 yard pass from May to Jacob Jablonski but the 2 point conversion was no good and the ensuing onside kick failed.
JJ Coleman led the ground attack with 74 yards on 13 carries. May went 18 of 38 for 284 yards and 2 TD’s while Kevin Walls had 5 catches for 101 yards and Jacob Jablonski had 10 catches for 167 yards.
Defensively, the Demons were led by Connor Gregory with 5 tackles including one for a loss and a sack while Pat Lavecchia chipped in 5 of his own and Nick Gaunter with 4 including a sack.
The Demons fall to 1-7 overall and 1-6 in the SWC. They return home for the final two games of the season as they host North Ridgeville this Friday at UH-St. John Stadium at 7 pm.
