3.) Captains Bullpen throws 3 strong innings
After 6 strong innings from Civale, the Captains pitching did not stop there Michael Letkewicz came on for 2 innings of relief and gave up one hit and one walk but struck out 2 batters.
Dalbert Siri came in the ninth for one inning of work and also gave up one hit and one walk but struck out three batters.
Last season in Arizona Siri posted a 4.13 ERA but the numbers are misleading because his FIP was 3.00. FIP which stands for Fielding Independent Pitching which is measuring an ERA and what it would look like if he had experienced league average results on balls in play and league average timing. Siri also averaged 13.5 strikeouts per 9 innings and struck out 34% of the hitters he faced.
Larry Day had this to say about the Captains bullpen pitchers Letkewicz and Siri:
“They threw great and they kept the score what it was. Tonight the score was a larger margin but their job is to keep the score where it is. Rather it is 2-1 or 8-0 hopefully these guys can build off of their outings tonight.”
Tomorrow the Captains and Hot Rods will be finishing their 3-game series. The Hot Rods will be sending J.D. Busfield to the mound who has a 1-0 record with a 1.64 ERA. Brady Aiken will oppose Busfield and so far in the season has a 0-2 record with a 4.15 ERA.
First pitch will be at 6:30 at Classic Park.
