Eastlake – The Lake County Captains defeated the Peoria Chiefs 5-1 in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon.
Then, in the second game on Wednesday night, the Captains won 2-0.
The first game was scoreless until the top of the fourth when Peoria scored on a home run by RJ Yeager.
The Captains answered quickly in the bottom of the fourth when Will Bartlett hit a sacrifice fly to left field to tie the game at one.
The Captains, still in the bottom of the fourth, then scored two runs on wild pitches and Joe Lampe got a base hit to drive in a run to make the score 4-1.
The Captains got their last run of the game in the bottom of the 6th inning when Jake Fox tripled to drive in the final run.
Guardians 4th ranked top prospect Chase DeLauter was 2-4 in the first game to lead the Captains.
Getting the victory on the mound for the Captains was former University of Michigan baseball player Steve Hajjar who was a second round draft pick of the Minnesota Twins in 2022.
Hajjar pitched six innings, giving up only one run on two hits and striking out 8.
In the Captains 2-0 victory in the second game, the Captains scored twice in the fifth inning.
The Captains scored when Nate Furman drove in the first run of the inning with a double.
Chase DeLauter brought home the second run of the inning on an infield hit.
The Captains are now 6-1 on the current homestand as they have won six of their last seven games.
The Captains return to Classic Park, Thursday at 7pm for the third game of their sixth game homestand against the Peoria Chiefs.
