The Lake County Captains defeated the Fort Wayne TinCaps, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon to win the six game series in Ft. Wayne, 4 games to 2.
In Sunday afternoon’s victory, the Captains scored first in the top of the fifth inning.
Captains catcher Joe Donovan drew a two-out walk.
Then on a 1-2 count, the Guardians eighth ranked prospect, Jake Fox, doubled to drive in Donovan from first base.
The Captains added a run in the top of the seventh when Cesar Idrogo scored from third base on a wild pitch to make the score 2-0.
Idrogo initially got on base with a single that went off the first baseman’s glove to start the top of the seventh. He then stole second base and got to third when Donovan grounded out.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, The TinCaps scored a run to make the final score, 2-1.
In Sunday afternoon’s victory, the Captains used five pitchers. Pitching a scoreless first inning was Trenton Denholm. Sergio Morillo then pitched the second and third innings.
Josh Wolf got the victory as he threw three innings of scoreless baseball.
Alaska Abney threw a scoreless seventh and eighth inning and Tyler Thornton got his ninth save of the year as he pitched the ninth inning.
For the game the Captains out hit the TinCaps 7-2.
Captain Win Series – Guardians Top Prospects Excel
The Captains won the six game series over the TinCaps, 4-2. The Captains won Tuesday’s game 8-5.
On Tuesday the Captains were led by six players who had multiple hit games including Guardians 8th ranked prospect Jake Fox (2-5) and 19th ranked prospect Milan Tolentino (2-5).
Also having multiple hits in Tuesday night’s game for the Captains were Christian Cairo (2-3), the Guardians 2022 number one pick, Chase DeLauter (2-2), and Nate Furman (3-4).
DeLauter, the Guardians sixth ranked prospect who played collegiately at James Madison University, is currently hitting .406, with 2 home runs and 15 RBI.
On Wednesday, the Captains lost to the TinCaps 11-3.
However, on Thursday and Friday the Captains defeated the TinCaps 11-2 and 9-0.
In Thursday’s 11-2 victory, four of the Guardians top prospects had multi-hit games including Guardians 8th ranked prospect, Jake Fox (2-5), Guardians 19th ranked prospect, Milan Tolentino (2-5, 5 RBI), Guardians 26th ranked prospect, Joe Lampe (2-4), and Guardians 28th ranked prospect, Dayan Frias (2-5).
In addition, Jorge Burgos was 2-5, and Joe Donovan was 2-3 with a triple and home run Thursday night.
In Friday’s 9-0 victory over the TinCaps the Captains were led by Will Bartlett (3-3), Dayan Frias (3-4, 3 RBI), Jake Fox (3-5), and Cesar Idrogo (2-4).
The Captains return home to Classic Park on Tuesday as they start a six game homestand against the Beloit Sky Carp.
