The Barberton girls basketball team faced Tallmadge Saturday, and both teams put up some points in the game with Barberton coming out on top, 35-32. Tallmadge scored mainly one second chance opportunities that the Magics were just not able to get.
Tallmadge’s top scores were Lizzie Bicar (14 points) and Jordyn Severns (nine points).
After the game, Tallmadge head coach Collin Epstein talked about his team’s performance.
“We did not play a great game against Copley Thursday, and to be able to come out of here and hold Barberton to 35 points is a good thing for our team.”
The Magics however would not give up, and they were lead by senior Jenna Kelly who had a total of nine points and junior Lanysha Prewitt who added seven.
“Our kids need to start taking responsibility for what they need to do, and they have to start believing in themselves and they won’t play better until they do,” Barberton head coach Greg Whitmer said.
“We are going through growing pains, but you know what we are winning so I guess that’s a good thing we are winning while we learn.”
When asked about who he thought that stepped up on the moments they needed it the most he said Jenna Kelly.
“She is our quarterback out there and she held everything together to get us the win,” he said.
Barberton will play at home against Firestone at 7:00. As for Tallmadge, they play at Hudson on December 21st at 7:30
