All it took Saturday morning for Cavs Nation to realize Kyrie Irving would be making his debut Sunday at home against the 76ers was this tweet from Mr. Fourth Quarter himself.
Irving has been sidelined since being injured with a few minutes remaining in Game 1 of the NBA Finals when he went down trying to drive to the basket against the Golden State Warriors.
On Wednesday, a rumor had been circulating Irving would return Thursday night at home against the Oklahoma City Thunder. He debunked that on Twitter by saying, “Sorry to dwindle the news, but I won’t be returning tomorrow. It was wrongfully reprted. When I do come back you’ll hear it directly from me.”
Irving played in 75 regular season games last year averaging 21.7 ppg, 5.2 apg, 3.2 rpg while shooting 47% from the field and 42% beyond the arc. He had appeared in 13 of the 20 total post season games the Cavs played. Of course, only 15 of those games were played prior to the season-ending injury. He had sat out in Game 2 and 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Hawks with tendinitis.
