Corey Kluber’s outing on Saturday was exactly what the Indians needed, and combined with three homers the Indians got back into the win column with a 5-2 win over the Yankees in the Bronx.
Kluber was the star, as he finally stopped the awful last couple of outings from Indians starters that began on Monday with Danny Salazar and spilled into Friday night when Josh Tomlin could not solve the Yanks bats in an eventual 13-7 loss.
The Indians ace with the win moved to 11-8 and his ERA sits at 3.22 following the win. He shut down the Yankees to the tune of eight innings, five hits, two runs with a walk and eight strikeouts.
Former Yankee reliever Andrew Miller worked the ninth just to make sure to earn his 10 save.
The offense did the job with three more long balls – Jason Kipnis, Mike Napoli and Rajai Davis all hit home runs for the Tribe.
Napoli’s homer, his 28th of the season, broke a 2-2 tie in the 6th after the Indians battled back after they trailed early 2-0. Kipnis got them going, and then Napoli’s homer proved to be the difference.
With with the win the Indians have won two of three (despite it seeming the world falling down), and the team is 62-46, and they remain at least two games ahead in the AL Central, depending on what happens with Detroit tonight as they host the New York Mets at 7:10pm at Comerica Park.
The Indians will look to win the series on Sunday in New York with a 1:05pm start.
