JR Smith suspended by Cavaliers for one game

CLEVELAND– JR Smith has been suspended by the Cavaliers for tonight’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers due to “detrimental conduct.” The team announced the suspension via press release.

During his pregame media availability, head coach Tyronn Lue said the suspension was due to an incident that occurred after Thursday morning shootaround, but declined to elaborate further.

“Something happened after shootaround,” Lue said. “That’s all the details I’m going to give to you and he’ll be ready to go tomorrow, and he’ll be ready to go on Saturday.”

Lue said that Smith was set to start today before the suspension came down, and that he will regain his starting spot for Saturday’s game against the Denver Nuggets. He will also be at practice on Friday. Rodney Hood will start in Smith’s place, while Jeff Green will also return after sitting out Tuesday night against the Brooklyn Nets due to low back soreness.
