The John Marshall Lawyers opened up league play against John Adams Running Rebels on Tuesday night.
First-year head coach Rich Austin got his first career win against Brookside last Saturday, looking to continue the streak with his first Senate win over The Running Rebels.
Lead by returning All-Senate first-team performer senior guard Quentin Williams, John Marshall used ball movement to break the Rebels zone defense to lead 13-9 after the first quarter.
John Marshall turned up the pressure on Adams creating turnovers and back-to-back threes fromn Williams to open up Marshall’s lead going into halftime with the score 27-18. Williams scored 13 of his team-high 26 points in the first half.
During the beginning of the third quarter, both teams scored on transition buckets. John Marshall pushed the lead to 13 points after a three-pointer from junior guard Raymere Oats with John Marshall leading 39-26 with five minutes left in the third quarter. John Adams went on a short run and cut the lead to 6 with a three from junior guard Rashaun Brown with two minutes left in the third quarter.
The Running Rebels cut the lead to five before a lay-up by John Marshall gorward John Jackson to extend the lead back to 7.
The Lawyers used two back-to-back threes from Oats to spark a 17-6 run in the fourth quarter to defeat the Running Rebels with the score of 61-44. Williams led all scorers with 26 points, while Juruan Hardin had 12 points for John Adams.
