CLEVELAND, Ohio- In a season filled with disappointment after disappointment, the Browns take one more loss on the chin. This time regarding their Pro Bowl Left Tackle.
Joe Thomas was left off of both AP All-Pro teams for the first time since his rookie year. Thomas had made one of the All-Pro teams for the last eight seasons, with six of them being first-team honors. So safe to say when the announcement was made Friday, the exclusion of Thomas was puzzling to most. Turns out, he missed out on the honor by one vote.
The fifty media members who voted selected seventeen first-time players for this honor. The format of voting was changed this year, as a fifth defensive back, offensive flex player, punt returner and kick returner were added this year. Along with those changes, every position on the offensive line was voted separately this year.
The two players ahead of Thomas at the Left Tackle position were Tyron Smith of the Dallas Cowboys and David Bakhtiari of the Green Bay Packers. Bakhtiari received eight votes, while Thomas tallied seven votes. If the two would have tied, they both would have received Second-Team All-Pro honors.
Thomas was the only player for Cleveland to receive a single vote.
