UNIONTOWN, OHIO – Coming into their homecoming night, Lake was undefeated, averaging over 35 points per contest.
Jackson would tear down their momentum with a 28-3 victory at Blue Streak Stadium on Friday Night.
Both teams exchanged several punts in the opening quarter, as the game was deadlocked 0-0 heading into the second.
Jackson would start off the scoring late in the second quarter. Jake Ryan, an NCAA Division I recruit, hauled in the first of his two touchdowns on a 33-yard pass from Hunter Geissinger to make the score 7-0.
Lake would end the half with a chip shot field goal after an impressive goal line stand from Jackson, making the halftime score 7-3 Polar Bears.
Ryan would corral his second touchdown of the night, a 73-yard catch and run to put Jackson ahead 14-3.
The Polar Bears would continue a balanced offensive attack, with Geissinger muscling his way forward for another Jackson touchdown.
Lake’s offensive struggles would continue, as they would only pick up 69 yards from scrimmage in the second half.
Jackson would tack on one more short touchdown carry, giving us our final score of 28-3.
One of the keys coming into the game for Jackson was to stop Dreden Owens at all costs. They did just that, holding him to 73 yards just one week after he finished with 299 yards and four touchdowns.
Jackson running back Ethan Adkins outgained his counterpart with 130 yards on 25 carries.
As the old saying goes, “defense wins championships”. While a state title may be a little extreme, don’t tell that to this football team. The Polar Bears believe that they can lock down any team that comes their way this season.
Jackson (4-1) will travel to Canton next week to face GlenOak (1-4).
Lake (4-1) will have another tough challenge, as they visit McKinley (4-1) at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.
