Inside the Lines: Who to Take and Not Take This Weekend in College and Pro Football Action

NFL Lines Week 1

New York Giants vs. Dallas
New York Even

The Giants go to Dallas where Dak Prescott will make his debut. I’m not convinced he will beat a two time Super Bowl Champion in his debut. The Cowboys are going to be conservative offensively and their defense is suspect. The Giants don’t have a run game and they have probably the best weapon in football in ODB. That frees up the rest of the experienced Giants to do their job and the revamped defense stops Prescott’s miraculous preseason run against second and third stringers.

Minnesota vs. Tennessee
Minnesota -2

Losing Teddy Bridgewater hurts but the Vikings still have Adrian Peterson. Peterson is the best player on either offense and the Titans still have a long way to go as a team. Their defense needs to improve and Mariota’s two starting WRs are Rishard Matthews and fifth round rookie Tajae Sharp. Minnesota just needs to pound the rock and steal a three point win to cover.

Pittsburgh vs. Washington
Under 50

This one is projected to be the third highest scoring game of the week. That could very well be the case if it wasn’t occurring week one. The Steelers are without Le’Veon Bell, Martavis Bryant, and Ladarius Green. The Redskins won’t have Josh Doctson and Matt Jones has been banged up. That’s a lot of injuries for both offenses to expect each team to score 25.

Los Angeles vs. San Francisco
Under 43

I get the NFLs desire to put the Rams in primetime because of their new market but they couldn’t have picked a worse game. Between the combo of Tavon Austin, Kenny Britt, Torrey Smith, and Quinton Patton starting at WR, I’m not sure how many other teams any of those guys would be a WR4 for let alone start. The star of the night is getting to watch Todd Gurley run and run and run and Blaine Gabbert get eaten alive by the Rams defensive line in an ugly low scoring game.
