The Cleveland Indians have traded third baseman Giovanny Urshela to the Toronto Blue Jays future considerations, the team announced on Wednesday.
Urshela was designated for assignment after he finished rehabbing in Triple-A Columbus due to the team choosing versatile infielder Erik Gonzalez over him. Both players were out of minor-league options which forced the team to make a decision on who they wanted to keep.
The talented defender will provide an interesting prospect at the position for the Blue Jays, who have Josh Donaldson currently running the hot corner with no sign of slowing down. Urshela must improve his bat, however. That’s the main reason he didn’t find himself on the Major League roster over Gonzalez.
