Indians fans and the organization will get their first look at prospect Shane Bieber on Thursday, as the team will call him up to start and make his Major League debut against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field.
The move comes to be able to not only see what Bieber, who threw a no-hitter in Columbus last week, can bring at the Major League level, but also to give starter Trevor Bauer, who threw 127 pitches Sunday in an eventual 14-inning win over the Astros, an extra day or rest.
“It seems like the right time. It will be really good for him to gain some experience,” Terry Francona said about the spot start for Bieber “He’ll go back (to Columbus) after the start. It will be good for us to get a chance to watch him pitch a major league game Hopefully, he helps us win, but it will be just great experience for him.”
