Indians Sign Veteran Free Agent OF Cameron Maybin

The Indians are giving another veteran a shot at a job, as Friday the club signed free agent Cameron Maybin to a minor league contract.

Maybin has been assigned to Triple-A Columbus, but if he can make an impact in the minors it’s not a stretch that he’ll eventually join the teams’ Major League roster.

The veteran outfielder, who will turn 32 in early April, was released by the Giants at the end of spring training after hitting .163 in Cactus League play.

Lifetime he’s a career .254 hitter, and over the last two seasons has played with the Angels, Astros, Marlins and Mariners.

During that time he hit a combined .237 with 14 homers, 34 doubles, four triples and 43 stolen bases in 834 plate appearances.

He’ll have to prove his worth in Columbus, as already the Clippers outfield will see another vet getting playing time in Carlos Gonzalez, along with and Brandon Barnes as well as prospect Oscar Mercado, who outplayed just about everyone this spring.
