CLEVELAND – Indians relief pitcher Andrew Miller took another step forward on Saturday, and it sounds like he’s getting closer to getting back to being able to pitch on the big league roster for the AL Central leading Indians.
Indians manager Terry Francona said today via a tweet from MLB.com’s Jordan Basitan that Miller threw a bullpen session that lasted 20 pitches, and that the session went well.
Miller will likely go at it again on Monday, and while it’s already been determined that he won’t pitch with the Indians till after the All-Star break, it’s another good sign that he’s getting close to being Major League ready.
It’s the second time in the last few days that Miller has thrown a bullpen session, as he threw 31 pitches off the mound Thursday with pitching coach Carl Willis on hand to watch.
It’s been a tough season for Miller, as he’s been on the disabled list twice due to issues, the latest due to right knee inflammation.
He was on the DL in late April with a left hamstring strain. He came back to the team on the 11th of May, and made six appearances before injuring his knee, and in that time was clearly not himself.
Miller has registered a 4.40 ERA in 14 1/3 innings pitched this season, registering one save.
