CLEVELAND – Indians pitcher Danny Salazar has been placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Indians with elbow inflammation, this after he was roughed up last night in the Indians 12-5 loss to the Minnesota Twins at Progressive Field.
The team made the announcement on Tuesday, following Salazar getting an MRI on the bothersome elbow on Tuesday morning.
The Indians announced that today’s MRI ruled out any structural damage, revealing only inflammation in the area of the right elbow. He will avoid throwing for 5-to-7 days and is expected to miss 2-to-3 weeks.
On the season, the Indians All-Star pitcher is 11-4 with a 3.38 ERA on the season, but had a rough July and then things didn’t go well in his first start of August with allowing three homers in the loss, seven total in his last three starts.
“There’s something in my elbow,” said Salazar Monday. “I don’t know what it is. We don’t know. I think we’re going to find out tomorrow.”
With Salazar on the DL, the team called up newly acquired outfielder Brandon Guyer, who was picked up before the trade deadline Monday from the Tampa Bay Rays.
Guyer comes to the Indians hitting .241 on the season with 7 homers and 18 RBI.
