The Indians injuries continue to mount, as a day after placing pitchers Andrew Miller and Danny Salazar on the DL, today the team put second basemen Jason Kipnis on the 10-day DL with a right hamstring strain.
The team recalled infielder Erik Gonzalez to take Kipnis’ place on the roster.
González begins his third stint with Cleveland this season, having spent over two months with the club from May 14-August 5 and again on August 9.
With Cleveland this year he is batting .263 (21-80) with 11 runs, 5 2B, 2 HR & 6 RBI in 39 games.
He has appeared in 24 games (14 starts) at second base, 6 games (2GS) at short stop, 4 games (2GS) at third base and 1 start in left field at the Major League level.
He has batted .256 (41-160) at the Triple-A level this season with 4 2B, 3 3B, 6 HR & 13 RBI in 40 games.
Kipnis begins his third stint on the disabled list this season as the club now has nine players currently on the Major League Disabled List.
For the season he is batting .228 (69-303) with 22 2B, 11 HR & 30 RBI in 79 games. He was injured running to first base in the first inning of last night’s game vs. Boston.
He was on the D.L. with a similar ailment from July 9-August 5, missing 22 games.
