A day after getting shut out in all four positions for a Gold Glove award, the Cleveland Indians have something to be happy about Wednesday night. Tribe ace Corey Kluber brought home the MLBPA Outstanding Pitcher of the Year for the American League. This award is voted on by other MLB players, many that have seen firsthand how dangerous Kluber is.
Kluber had quite the year, going 18-4 with a 2.25 ERA on the campaign. Along with the eighteen wins comes 265 strikeouts in 203.1 innings logged for the former Cy Young Award winner. Kluber missed a month of action due to injury but did not miss a beat upon his return, making his achievements this season that much more impressive.
With the Cy Young Award winner to be announced next week, Kluber has an opportunity to earn some more hardware. He’ll have to beat out Boston’s Chris Sale and New York’s Luis Severino for the second time in as many weeks for the award. Kluber does have the one Cy Young award under his belt from 2014 as well as a third-place finish last season behind Justin Verlander and Rick Porcello.
