Indians Manager Terry Francona Tells His Story of Getting Called Up to the Majors – and It’s a Good One

Everyone that has ever gotten that call from the Minors to the Majors has a story about where they were and what happened upon getting that call that changed their lives.

Today Indians first-round draft pick of 2014, Bradley Zimmer, shared his story about getting called up to the Majors, telling the assembled media he was in an ice bath when called to the managers office to get the news.

While Zimmer will forever have his story of his call-up, another former player now manager shared his story today with the media when he got called to the Majors – that being Tribe skipper Terry Francona.

Francona played from 1981 to 1990 in the Majors before eventually becoming a manager. He started his career with the Montreal Expos, playing with them from 1981 to 1985. He also had MLB time with the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians and Milwaukee Brewers.

Tito’s first day in the big league’s is a classic story, and he shared it on Tuesday like only he can. It involved a late night, Nolan Ryan, a cab ride, a cigar from Cuba and showing up late.
