Indians Light Up The Bronx With Four Home Runs, Defeat Yankees 6-2; Three Takeaways From the Victory

The Cleveland Indians stormed into Yankee Stadium to take on the New York Yankees for a three-game set and with Corey Kluber on the mound for the Tribe, the results were bound to be good. The Tribe’s offense found a few key opportunities to score on Yankees’ starter Luis Severino, hitting three solo home runs to take the lefty out of the game in the 7th. The Tribe would go on to win the series opener by a final score of 6-2.

Let’s talk about the game with our three takeaways.

1. Kluber Continues His March Towards The AL Cy Young Award- When Corey Kluber missed a month, no one expected him to come back and be as dominant as he has been. Kluber now has fourteen wins on the year and some of his losses can be attributed to lack of run support. Nonetheless, Kluber has been and was stellar tonight on the mound. Going eight strong innings while only allowing two earned runs, Kluber looked unhittable for most of the night. Kluber walked one batter on the outing, fanning seven batters. He continues to stake his claim for the AL  Cy Young Award.

2. Jose Gets Going Again- A month ago, Indians third baseman Jose Ramirez was batting .330. Since that point, things got difficult for Jose for a stretch of time. Earlier this month, Ramirez was even batting as low as .298. Luckily for the Indians’ sparkplug, he has found his bat again.

Ramirez went deep not once, but twice to keep the Indians on pace with New York early in the game at two runs apiece. Ramirez is batting a solid .300 at the plate right now, so it seems as if he’s starting to return to his old self.

3. Gearing Up For October- The talks of postseason play are now starting to circulate as the Tribe are further distancing themselevs from the rest of the pack in the AL Central. The exciting news is they have a chance to fully hit their stride when they meet a September schedule that has a lot of division play as always. Since their early struggles against divisional foes this season, the Tribe is currently 32-23 against the AL Central.
