The Indians are red-hot right now, winning their last 11 games quite handily. For a team that is outscoring their opponents 84-21 during the twelve-game stretch, the offense has obviously been clicking. With that comes individual awards.
To add to his marvelous season, Indians third baseman Jose Ramirez has won the AL Player Of The Week for Aug. 27-Sept. 3.
Ramirez has been playing well all season and boasts a .310 batting average currently on the campaign.
Last week, the fiery-haired slugger put together a .538 batting average and went for extra bases 11 times. To add to that, he became only the third Tribe player all-time to accomplish the feat of having a game with five extra base hits, achieving the stat on Sunday against the Detroit Tigers.
At some point in time, Ramirez is going to have to draw MVP considerations. With Aaron Judge falling back down to earth and the Houston Astros’ Jose Altuve lacking the pop Ramirez brings to the table, it’s astonishing that Ramirez is not yet a household name. Maybe that’ll change this Sunday, when the Tribe host the Baltimore Orioles at Progressive Field for ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball.
This is just another weekly reminder of how well the Tribe are playing and how good this team really is.
