CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland Indians relief pitcher Cody Allen, has been named American League reliever of the month for April. Greg Holland was named National League reliever of the month for April also.
The announcement was made earlier today on the MLB Network.
Allen made 10 appearances in April and converted each of his six save opportunities and struck out 20 batters.

Cody Allen has only allowed one walk, has not surrendered a home run and finished April with an Earned Run Average of 0.90 over 10.0 innings pitched.
This is Allen’s first career monthly award.
Allen started the 2017 season with a save and three strikeouts in the each of the team’s first two victories to begin the season.
On April 26th against Houston, Allen converted his first four-out save of the season. In his career, Allen has an ERA of 0.77 in save opportunities longer than an inning and has converted 14 out of the 17 times.
Following his save against the Seattle Mariners on April 29th, Allen now ranks fifth in career saves for the Cleveland Indians Organization.
Allen has 98 saves and is trailing only Jose Mesa (104), Chris Perez (124), Doug Jones (129), and Bob Wickman (139). Allen enters the day today on an eight-game scoreless streak.
Outside of Allen’s fantastic month, Andrew Miller has not allowed a run in 11.2 innings and the Indians bullpen finished April with the second lowest ERA (2.25) and fourth-highest strikeout rate (10.32 K/9) in the American League.
